how do i convince my husband to let me at least job-share so i can take care of our 3 month old dd? he grew up with his mom working & all his friend's moms working. we can afford it if we cut back on some things, but he doesn't want to cut back & just doesn't understand someone wanting to be a stay at home mom...it doesn't help mycause that the grandmothers will babysit. i'm so unhappy about having to go back to work...he wants me to work full time 1 more year & just doesn't get it! i feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time i hink about it.

All that link proves is that the source isn't reliable.

Blatant falsehood. Unless he's not counting the past thousand years or so far enough in the past to be "history".

What is the definition of "instability of care", as it pertains to this study?

Generally, it's best to read the actual study, rather than articles about the study.

"Nurtering" just means they didn't let them die. Lots of women DID have to take time out of housework to breastfeed, although they probably figured out a way to do something such as sew. You do less housework than women of the past had to. Far less. Your quote doesn't argue against this. Your quote argues in favor of breastfeeding and that is all. Do you seriously do nothing but breastfeed all day? Eww! The modern ways of supervising children are just...modern. The humanrace survived for millenia with a childrearing that would get you charged with neglect and abuse. Or at least enough survived to reproduce.

You do less housework. Far less. Your whole idea of spending the day "nurturing" and "raising" would have forced you and your kids to die of starvation at any time in history but now.

The proof is considered historical, rather than scientific. The knowledge that electrical sewing mnachines and industrial looms didn't exist 200 years ago is historical, not scientific knowledge.

Um, did you KNOW that electrical appliences didn't exist 200 years ago? It now occurs to me that this whole subthread may be based on you not realizing that washing machines and elctric stoves are a recent invention. Tip: they are. The proof of that is...they are.

It doesn't take all day to nurse a baby. If you think it does...ewww!

Exactly! Thank you!

Mothers working outside home are actually spending as much time with their children as did stay-at-home moms studied in 1981, she said. About 63% of mothers worked outside the home in 1997, up from 50% in 1981.Mothers working outside home are actually spending as much time with their children as did stay-at-home moms studied in 1981, she said. I agree. My mother didn't fret about how much time she was spending with us. I don't think it would have crossed her mind to do so.

I have to ask again, when does this child have time to play with all these structured activities. The kids in our neighborhood spent the last two day catching frogs, much more fun than what you have laid out.
