How do you leave them??

I'm already going crazy thinking about taking my son to daycare. He is almost 4 weeks now, I get 8 weeks off since I had a C-sec. I can't imagine leaving him!! I know the daycare knows how to care for children, but I don't want him to think I just abandoned him! I never pictured myself as a SAHM, and I'm not sure if I could handle the lack of activity and adult interaction (besides, it's not really financially possible for us). I'm going to cut down my work hours to 4 days a week, but I still feel bad about having to leave him...

Actually, I've said the opposite.

I am absolutely defensive/sensitive on this subject. I have gotten a ton of crap from SAHMs in RL about starting a career with young children. The ones in my family did not even congratulate me when I graduated. They did tell me I owed it to my children to drop out (though they live 100 miles away, and themselves have commented on my kids are always happy). Perhaps that affects the way I interpreted your posts, but to me the underlying tone was that your type of SAH would be better for my kids than DC, but DC would definitely be better than the crappy care I give them because I'm in law school (based on mistaken assumptions that I sit at home and study while they fend for themselves.)

If I read that wrong, I apologize.

"I'm wondering if there are any working mothers on this discussion board that are not perfectly happy with their daycare situation."

Not me personally, but I certainly know people IRL who are not happy with their childcare situation.

I have a close friend who's very much a planner, but also really enjoys the "process," versus the "destination," of SAH with her two children.

I got out from the house much less when I was a child than my own children do.

Ha! I read that last night! Did you see where the hospital (or fire dept? I forget which now) gave the kid a teddy bear and the family named it Agitator? LOL

That's pretty much where I was, mentally, before it became clear that A. would most likely be an only.

Oh and this is precisely why if you are going to be sahm you need to make sure the family has enough money for emergencies...such as the cost of a new washing machine after the jaws of life pry your child out of the old one! lol
