How does this relate to the debate?

Hey I rhymed! lol

Something occurred to me earlier and I wanted to see how others thought it might relate to the whole "which is harder SAH/WOH" portion of the debate that crops up so often.

I think that, when you look at either group *as a whole*, the WOHs might have it harder. And this is why ...

There are virtually no SAHMs who SAH because they "have to". There are virtually no SAHMs who are forced to SAH. A woman that SAH wants to SAH.(I'm sure there's a few exceptions out there; controlling dhs who MAKE their wives SAH, disabled children, etc) A woman that SAH doesn't hate her "job", or else she'd go get a WOH job. A woman that SAH is generally getting what she wants.

There are LOTS AND LOTS of WOHMs who WOH because they "have to". A single mom, or one whose dh doesn't make enough to support the family, or one with a disabled dh, whatever the case may be ... she may long, with all her heart, to SAH, but *can't*. Many WOHMs hate their jobs, but can't quit.

Anyhoo ... just wanted to stir up something new

Oh, honey, that's about the most bullsh** I've read here in a long time. It's truly sad you think that way.

What will you do if they decide to become active in the peace corps, live a life of gypsy out in the middle of the amazon, helping natives build huts and learn what a tooth brush is?

No money, by your standards...it certainly isn't a career...

Are you saying that your standards are that if it does not interfere with "evolution", then it is an acceptable (I guess forget optimal) parenting practice?

I think the world would be equally bad off if all the SAHMs went into the workforce, leaving NO SAHMs.

Of course, then SAHM would cease to be a choice .. suit you and P&J just fine.

Heck, I don't want to be at the top of anything, so why would I desire that for my children, unless they desired it for themselves.

TM - who thinks the view from the middle is just dandy.

If a garbage man (which mine are mighty cute and I KNOW they haven't gone to college) can be called a sanitation engineer...

Then I better be able to call myself a domesitic engineer! At least I have had *some* extended education in technical trades such as insurance and how to beat the system so you can fire a person and not get sucked into paying unemployment (of course, that was during my management career....)

But being a doctor and being a nurse are two entirely different things. Why assume that because someone wants to be a nurse, they have any interest in being a doctor?
