How does this relate to the debate?

Hey I rhymed! lol

Something occurred to me earlier and I wanted to see how others thought it might relate to the whole "which is harder SAH/WOH" portion of the debate that crops up so often.

I think that, when you look at either group *as a whole*, the WOHs might have it harder. And this is why ...

There are virtually no SAHMs who SAH because they "have to". There are virtually no SAHMs who are forced to SAH. A woman that SAH wants to SAH.(I'm sure there's a few exceptions out there; controlling dhs who MAKE their wives SAH, disabled children, etc) A woman that SAH doesn't hate her "job", or else she'd go get a WOH job. A woman that SAH is generally getting what she wants.

There are LOTS AND LOTS of WOHMs who WOH because they "have to". A single mom, or one whose dh doesn't make enough to support the family, or one with a disabled dh, whatever the case may be ... she may long, with all her heart, to SAH, but *can't*. Many WOHMs hate their jobs, but can't quit.

Anyhoo ... just wanted to stir up something new

Well, the guy across the street is a sanitation engineer (4-12 shift) - he takes his children to school in the morning and picks them up most afternoons. He is on a rotating day off schedule and when something comes up, he is able to switch shifts to be there (an option I never had when I worked 9-5 as did all of my counterparts).

As to the shower and change comment, there were many nights that after a commute on a hot train mashed up against 100 other professionals, I had to do just that myself.

What is a natural mother and why do you get to define it?

Women worked all the time prior to the 1950s as well. Women owe the fact they are able to work to the fact that noone has the attitude that women should be home anymore. The last of those who have that attitude will die off soon. Beyond that, being that only 25% of mothers stay home anyways that is the last thing that needs worrying about.

What is really sad... Is you are not looking at the big picture, you are the only one who seems to have a problem with the fact that CLW believes her provider is a asset and a "better" provider than she is but that we as sahm cannot handle her job while she opend the door for us...that is what is condesending eileen.

If this correction in the data was done a long time ago has it been updated? And how? Does it reflect the mass of education we all have it our fingertips, the changes in the economic landscape and the changes in societal roles? If not, then how can any research that includes this "correction" be accurate by modern standards?

As to your "research" - one is a time study that doesn't show any benefits of either side. One is a bunch of statements with no proof from an advocacy group. The third is the same time study as the first.

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;

To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;

This is to have succeeded.

-Emerson.

--- nope nothing about having to be a professional to do any of that....

Why would it hurt her that her child is above the "norm"? Does it bother you that your children *only* by your standards fall within the norm?

Show me some real facts on this one.
