How much daycare is too much?

Did anyone see the Wall Street Journal today? An article on the "Personal Journal" page talks about two studies that are coming out -- one being the already referenced NICHD study -- that shows 45+ hours a week of day can do harm to a child. What I found interesting about it is that the NICHD study says *anything* other than mom care is other care!! What happened to Dad?
The other article, in the same section, is an article about how parents are outsourcing everything now, including potty training! The article states that parents will send a child to a batting coach instead of just playing catch in the backyard. Another service, that costs $60 an hour (!), will help teach your child how to ride a bike!
I don't have an online subscription to the Journal, so I can't post the stories here. Does anyone else have one?

shuffle all you want pnj......my message this entire time is the unfair child who is passed around from place to place while a parent continues to satisfy their own needs....it does make a difference if only one parent's presense can be represented.
you knew that.
At least?

"it does make a difference if only one parent's presense can be represented."
No, my argument is it doesn't make a difference, necessarily.

So agree.

The balance is when mom picks up McDs on MTF and dad picks up McDs on TR. lol
Seriously, the balance is when mom comes home an hour later on Mon and Wed while dad picks up kids and gets dinner started and Dad comes home an hour later on Tues Thurs while mom picks up kids and gets dinner started.
Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color. Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

<<If I felt like it was a case of "if I don't do this I will go insane," >>
How about "if I don't do this, I'll be unhealthy and instead of spending my time with my kids running rhough the park, I spend it collapsed on the couch while they watch Nicktoons and eat cereal out of the box.

then you're putting an additional unfair placement on that dear child....i mean, why should it be your child's burden or fault (the extra hour or two at the gym when they've already been in dc all day) because of (your) need to take off some weight because of (your) latest blood choloestrol check........it's all about what's *best* for the child not *you* in my opinion.
my scenario would go something like this to defend my point.....i sah and have a routine at the gym 5X a week/without fail. my child is sick, not sick enough to warrant a refusal at the gyms nursery but he/she has told me he feels bleh and is running a slight temperature. do i go to the gym to satisfy *my* need or do i do what's best for my child? the latter which i think should apply with how many hours one spends in a day with their children too.
with all due respect savcal.....mom3texas
