How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

>> Some people are driven by intellectual fulfillment and passion for their jobs, not just the cash. <<

The point is, any given professor could take that same level of education and use it outside academia and they would make more money than they are currently making within academia. People do it because they want to be a professor of a particular subject, not because they want to make a lot of money.

No, there is only a $20,000 difference in the median salary.

Is there some magically expensive Houston in some other state I dont' know about? Not significantly different than DC? I guess 266 vs 65 on housing isn't significant?

That's got to be a hard transition late in high school, socially.

Argh - academia. One of my friends is in academia and after she finished her doctorate, she pretty much had to go wherever there was a job for her. I think she decided that the only place she would NOT consider a job was Arkansas. She would have loved to be in the bay area but could not find a job that would allow her to live even very modestly - evidently in her field they assume that you have a spouse or partner providing a second income?!

Very true but it will save her $250/week so I am sure it is worth it, for her ;)

So it was or it wasn't TJ's brand cereal that you found online?
