How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

Well when you figure out the amount you make in Area A to Area B, the difference is that you are actually making $28,000 MORE in Area B that they say you need to have the same SOL.

You did add it because it is a pro to the change, correct?

I'm sorry, you've lost me.

Is Area B the one with the higher COL? If so, then needing to make more to have the same standard of living makes sense.

It is immaterial to me whether he goes to the public school or the private school; both are good alternatives. But I have never insinuated to him that having the extra money matters to us at all because I would never want him to make the choice based on dollars. Just like when it comes time for him to pick a college, I don't want him choosing one or another because it is cheaper, I want him choosing the school that is the best fit for his interests and personality. But yes, having the extra cash next year would be fun for me if that is what he chooses.

It's huge, actually. And only one indicator of the cost of living. The median salary in Manhattan is less than $10,000 more than the media salary in my town-- that doesn't mean our costs of living are even close to the same.

Jobs in the LA and DC areas in my field pay about the same or maybe 10 or 20 thousand more per year as I'm making now. It's crazy.
