How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

Why are you bothering comparing median salaries in my profession in my town with those in your area anyway? I haven't had a thing to say about relative costs of living for my job other than to say that I took a pay cut when I came here but ended up living better -- higher SOL -- than we enjoyed in the Bay Area. Am I supposed to learn some lesson by knowing what the median salary for my job in our respective geographic areas is?

My area is really interesting...

Sometimes parents are focused on the elementary school for private school and then send their kids to public school for middle/high school and some are focused on private for middle/high school and send their kids to public school for elementary...and everything in between.

I brought it up. I think comparing her salary to your salary when you live in places with much different costs of living and much different education/employment environments is silly.

Yes, comparing her salary with mine is rather silly. Our fields are very different and the skills needed to do them are very different, and besides, my salary is only for .75 of the year.

My experience can get me a job as I have had all the training that students with a 4 year degree have. I am VERY lucky to have gotten this training as my position changed from when I started as did my salary and experience. I also am privledged to get continual training, free from my job to stay ahead of the game and the new kids coming out of school.

And I think she'd be hard-pressed to get an interview for a white collar job that pays close to her current salary, let alone a white collar job that pays close to her current salary in a college town without at least a BA.
