How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

A video is not the same as actually going and looking at the school, meeting students and teachers, etc.

We just completed an extensive school search for both my kids for next year. It was a job in and of itself for awhile there. But there's no way I'd have sent them to any of the schools we considered w/o visiting first. Some might call me a helicopter parent, but it was well worth the time and effort spent.

Was that ever said? I thought the only point being made here was that it is optional to provide that information. Some people opt TO include it, esp. if it will help them qualify for the loan they are seeking. Some opt NOT to.

And even if the district and specific school have a stellar reputation, individual teachers or staff can be less than stellar, or even pure crap. Sometimes paying a visit can be very revealing.

Good for you for making the decision. I'd say that that experience right there is a good enough reason for you to be very proactive about the schools your kids go to - from the front end - in the future.

Which is pretty much what I deduced in my earlier post when I used a not so flattering word to describe said student.

>> I would never sit in a classroom to get a feel for a school. <<

And that is your choice. Others choose differently. So what?

But you never know that the teacher you are watching teach that day will indeed, be your child's teacher. And just like a first date, I don't think you can fully know about the teachers and school after one sitting.

Like Mozart Sonata said, so what? Did anyone say you had to sit in the classroom? Why do you care if some parents do this?

True.

But it's information that could prove helpful in making a decision one way or another. COULD, not will.

Then what is the point of this debate?
