How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

Oh, there are many things that can happen in a school between kindergarten and fifth grade, which is where our public schools break. A school can change character completely in that time. Or a home could be redistricted. That happened to us. When we bought our home, it was in District "A" for 6th-9th grade. Our neighborhood was redistricted to to another school district for the middle/school jr high. We are also in the process of building another public high school in our town which might mean that instead of having our choice of two public high schools to attend, we'll have three. Things change over time.

Or in the case of a neighbor: Child A goes to kindergarten in neighborhood school. In first grade goes to French immersion school, in 3rd grade moves to foreign country for one year. In 5th grade comes back to immersion french school with great experience living in a French/Arabic speaking country - now also knows conversational Arabic in addition to the French. 7th grade goes to middle school. So by 8th grade he will have been in 4 schools. So far he is none worse for the wear and better off in many other ways. E-mail has made things much easier for kids who are away for 1-3 years to keep in touch with friends at "home".

Which is why I said 10+ years (from the birth of a child) to get to the END of elementary school, not the beginning.

Ooops...my bad.

Have you had experience an elementary school changing though, that drastic within the 6 years you or your children have gone through them?

Sometimes the kids fall apart because of the *reason* for the move, not the move itself - like in the case of a bitter divorce, or extreme family stress due to job loss, or death of a parent.
