How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

Well, again, you and I do not share basic epistemological foundations or assumptions, so I am sure that no amount of empirical evidence will suffice to persuade you of the fact that yes, there are very good private academies in the best school districts in the country, and that some parents will choose homeschooling over public schooling no matter the reputation of the local public schools. Nor has anyone been able to articulate any "damage" to a child that is likely to ensue when a child is told that "next year you are going to school X" because this year we have not liked "Y, Z, about your school. We think X will be a better alternative, and some of your friends go there already, so you already know people who will be in your class." I think more damage would be done by leaving kids in a situation that is the wrong situation for them, but that's your old linear thinking kicking in again.

And I am sure since you have researched my area so well you can tell me the percentage of students that go to the public schools in their own district. Thanks :)

Yep, great reason to have your home be worth more.

Thank you. I am so glad I don't "have to" research other alternative schools for my children. I know there are other schools out there as I have friends who either have gone to them or have their children going to them. I have no interest in putting my children in them-shrug.

Wow, I'm glad that hasn't happened on this board in education debates.

<< i do think there's a difference between a child having to switch schools because of a parent's job transfer versus a child who switches schools because a parent isn't happy with a school curriculum.

I was guessing that it didn't happen here....

Things have changed a lot in 30 years, I would expect the school district to at least keep up with the changes and not stay stagnant.

Different school board, less funding or more funding, parents, teachers...all kinds of things can change a school.
