How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

You must have missed my earlier post (somewhere in this massive thread) where I stated that the fact that DH was able to support our family on his salary alone was indeed a luxury. Since for a few years it was not financially feasible for me to work we would have been screwed if his income could not support the family. I did not feel like it was a luxury when I was going though it but I now realize how much it was.

actually,it's been brought to debate many times that what my husband makes and we can afford here on one income we couldn't afford in a higher COL area.

A previous poster (hmm, maybe hazeleyes or redlightgreenlight) drilled into everyone's head that Long Island is a very high cost of living area. Maybe that's just the first place that came to PNJ's mind when she thought of high cost of living areas. Just thought I'd point it out, since you're a new poster and everything.

Way too many variables.

And you shouldn't assume that everyone lives the way you live.

It's for the same reason that PNJ says that many families who live in Texas on one income wouldn't be able to do so in DC.
