How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

Ha! Everyone around here is right. We do pay higher taxes on gas than PA.

Why are you asking me? No response to your trying to enforce rules that don't exist?

I'm not sure why you are whining about posts that are not breaking any rules and trying to make up rules that don't exist?

I was actually stunned to find that size Cheerios on sale yesterday for $2.99. Usually that same box is over $5.00 these days. We didn't even need any but I bought it to keep on hand b/c it was so cheap.

>> The food costs are related to the location of the food source and the cost of transportation, and the prevailing wages of the store workers <<

Very good point. If your minimum wage is higher (usu. due to the COL in that state being higher), then you are going to see higher prices in most goods and services, not just food.

Please provide a link where I said that in the general way (and not for me specifically)

You are suggesting that if a household is careful and creative with their money, COL is irrelevant.

In the U.S., there are certain combinations of area COL and income in which no matter how careful and creative a household is with their money, their dollars just don't stretch far enough to meet basic living expenses.

I am wondering what suggestions you might have when that limit is reached.

There goes my plan for an inexpensive road trip from LA to Seattle. It looks like I should just drive around and around Texas instead.

Is a family better off, in the long run, buying or renting?

You can't easily move the house, through the internet or otherwise.
