How do you think the economy will affect decisions by women to stay at home versus work? With so many people losing jobs, do you think more women will be forced back into a job to help out (or take over) family finances? Is SAH parenting

Professors are not well paid ANYWHERE compared to other professionals with similar education. If you show me a humanities professor who is making a half million dollars a year (there are a few) I will show you a cardiologist in the same city who is making six times that. It's just a fact.

Nope, I buy what I like and can trust. Price doesn't come into play IRT which cereals we buy (just where). Sometimes it is name brand, sometimes not. Sometimes it isn't even boxed cereal. Lately, I have liked a Trader Joe's Muesli mix and add yogurt - but that isn't a boxed cereal. DH is partial to Barbara's Shredded Oats, but it is not always in stock at TJs. ODS prefers raisin bran these days (can't figure that out he is only 12). YDS is the particular one and he eats a name brand cereal.

Aren't you also able to flex your schedule and set your own office hours?

Well, I get raises every year, but they have been quite piddly until recently. I got a large raise last year because of a special funding situation but I don't expect that to occur ever again in my career. My boss already told us that there will be no raises this year; we might have to take a pay cut by the end of the year. So I would be in sad shape if I defined my success by salary alone!

Yes, yes, and not really. I took a one-semester leave without pay for both kids, but since they were each under a year old when I went back to work, I have never considered myself a SAHM, really.

I with Pnj on this one. I lived in Denton for a bit and though I wouldn't call it exactly a cultural wasteland, I certainly was not a fit for its culture. I did really like Austin, though.

That really stinks. I have been truly blessed that not only do I still have a job but that I was able to get a bonus and a raise this year. I know others will not :(

I thought Seaside was kind of a dump, though.

Professors are not well paid anywhere. It's not a job that ANYBODY goes into with the hopes of making big money. People who want big money go elsewhere.
