I have a complaint about the new board

And maybe someone can give me a tip....

My normal method is to open the main page, review the thread titles and look at the # of postings, dates, etc. Then I click on a thread I want to read and open the outline view. However, I then have to look through ALL the threads in the outline view to find the one I'm interested in. Sometimes I can't find it, especially if it is in the bottom section.

Also, I'll see a title in the responses while in outline and I'll click on it to read it, but I often can't find the post it is responding to so that I can get background. This is true for REALLY long threads.

It's gotten so now, that I just skip most threads with more than 100 posts, unless I've already read quite a bit of it. That's a shame since I'm sure I'm missing a lot of good discussion.

Is there some feature I'm not using or does anyone have any tips on how to avoid these annoyances?

Feel free to HIJACK

Are you logging in when you use the board?

I don't use the outline view. The method that I use is to log in. Then I am shown what threads have had activity since I was here last (and also which ones have replies to me). When I click on a thread it takes me to where I ended reading last time and I just read each post one at a time by clicking on next message. If I want I can click where it says this messiage was in reponse to XXXXX if I am confused about what was was said previously.

The only downside to my method is if there was a lot of posting done between my visits and I don't want to go through every post. Often when that happens I drop that thread from my read list unless it something that I am very interested becuase I have learned from experience that when threads get a lot of traffic in a short time the there is really nothing new being added to the conversation but just the same 2 or 3 people saying the same thing over and over again.

Yes, I do log in. And I can see where I left off and stuff, but I just haven't gotten used to doing things that way I guess.

Where do you see "This post is in response to.."? I'm missing that.

Thanks for the tip!

If you look above a post it says: Message # xxxxx in response to XXXXX. The post it is response to is in link format so you can click on it and find out exactly what the post you are reading is in response to.

MAPPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone has answered your question, I just wanted to say hello, and where in the hell have ya been?

Hope all is well, your face is missed around here.

Of course, you could have been here all along, but like you, unless I'm at work with the high speed connection, I don't go weeding through the thousands of threads. :O)

Hi Annie!!!

I've been around. I changed jobs last December to a place where I had no Internet. I was working crazy hours and rarely got on at home also. I then decided that the new job wasn't right for me, so now I'm back at my old place. But I've been so busy, and because of the board format, I don't post as much.

I happen to be working this weekend and while I'm running processes, I have more time to check out the boards.

Good to see all of you!

MAT

PS: Thanks to Texigan about that message in response to link. I had overlooked that! I do wish though that if we are in a discussin and click on Outline, we go to that discussion only instead of the whole board outline. Maybe I should go to "Talk Back".
