"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

One of my neighbors up the road has too much money and too much time (Oppenheimer offspring). He has a HUGE aviary (like 30' by 30') with the biggest assortment of weird a** speciality birds (peacocks in colors I have never seen, pheasants; at least 100 birds of every variety) in front of his house right off the road. The first time I walked up there I almost peed myself because one of the birds screamed SO LOUD and it literally sounded like a woman being murdered. Feathers all over the road, nests a' swinging, screams and squawks 24/7. There are so many

You've got four kids; make 'em wear pointy hats and voila! Instant yard gnomes! ;)

Years ago, someone sent me a link to a website for a guy who lived in a strictly controlled (HOA) neighborhood. Said neighborhood had consistently denied his requests to install a fence, so he bought up several dozen old toilets, lined the inside of his property line with them (like a big porcelain "fence") and planted flowers in all of them.

LOL, I don't know if he was eventually forced to remove the "planters" (which were permitted and nothing in the HOA about what the planters could be made of), but it was funny as hell.

Fortunately, my parents live about 25 minutes away so when we get desperate, we can stay there.

One of my neighbors has a propane generator with automatic switchover (I think that is has the technology that prevents you from even knowing that the power is out because it automatically powers your entire house even before it turns itself on). I think that it cost about $3500, but since we lose power a lot where we are, I can imagine that it is wonderful to have (we just have the old fashioned noisy gas powered generator which is such a hassle that I usually just fire up some candles and make some tea ;-)

Thanks for the invitation over to your house the next time we lose power :)

We talk about it all the time, but they are so darn expensive, loud and can be dangerous (fumes).

Have you seen Amelie? If you like garden gnomes, you'd get a kick out of that movie. The main character (Amelie) gives her dad's garden gnome to a flight attendant and the flight attendant sends pictures to the dad of the gnome in famous places. It's really cute.
