"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

That actually sounds like fun! I wish I had the time in my life to do more people watching, especially on an outdoor couch!

Now that is a cool idea, but the hats should obviously be yellow.

Well it's mostly car watching as it is a highway so the cars are just zooming by, no pedestrian traffic. I think you'd be pretty chilly, I'm in Alaska.

Now you need to sit on it while wearing the new WVU t-shirt I've been seeing everywhere: "Where greatness is learned and couches are burned."

I'm just giving you the reason California changed their property tax laws. Here, it was happening.

I was at home with my kids till they were 14 months old. And GUESS what? I have no blinking idea if I heard their first words or not. They might have said one in their cribs, might have said one while I was napping, might have said one when I dashed out to get my hair cut and DH was with them.
SAH doesnt mean you'll hear/see every first. And how does you seeing/hearing it benefit them anyway???

My grandfather was raised in such a place. :) His mother was a maid and his father was a rich Danish doctor. Let's just say the doctor didn't want anything to do with him, and mom had to work.

I didn't write the law, I was only explaining why it was written in the first place. Why exactly is property tax relief for seniors NOT subsidization, but assessing homes based on their purchase price is, BTW?

California is a strange bird. I don't think that it's common in other areas to have one's property value increase 400% in 10 years. I don't see how it would be reasonable to expect someone who purchased their home for $24,000 in the 60s to be able to afford property taxes (on a fixed income, most likely) on something valued at over $800k. If someone buys the house for $800k, then they already know what their property taxes will be. If they can't afford them, maybe they shouldn't buy an $800k house.
