"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

">>Is Ca better off under 30 yrs of Prop 13? <<

Yes"

Can you explain why you think CA is better off?

Why should California change its system just because you don't like it?

I explained many times why I think its gimmicky -- It is is not sound fiscal policy because it benefits current homeowners at the expense of future homeowners. Future homeowners subsidize current homeowners regardless of an ability to pay. The new homeowner in So LA may pay more taxes than the beachfront home on the Monterey Pennisula based on market timing alone. You're good with that? because I don't get it.

You feel that homeowners are better off after Prop 13? How so? Are you better off? Is the little old lady from Pasadina better off? Is the 25 yo married couple in Mountain View looking to purchase their first home better off? I'm pretty sure there's not a consensus on "better off" in those multiple scenarios.

Really? Cali used to be considered a state with the top 5 in public school systems before Prop 13, now it is lucky to be considered middling just about everywhere. You're good with that? Middling is not good enough for me or mine, I'm funny that way.

< Aren't city and town user fees proliferating to make up for budget shortfalls?>

This is not just a Cali phenom, I'll admit. But user fees are proliferating all over to offset the loss of income from property taxes. There are trash collection fees, sewage usage fees, local park and beach permits, etc. Cities and towns are working on ways to manufacture money outside of property taxes. For example, if I want to compost, I have to pay a user fee in my town. I pay them, I personally don't have a problem in non-essential user fees, but some of the fees for essential services.

No hyperbole on my part. You support a system that subsidizes old purchases vs new purchases regardless of economic need. I prefer a system that had has compassion and forgiveness for the truly needy and a graduated system for the slightly needy, and equal participation for everybody else.

My town services are incredibly valuable to my family. They teach my kids at public school, they provide a beautiful beach that I can access year round for free, they takeaway my trash, I have a great PD and FD. I have no problem paying my fair share for these services. I pay the same as my neighbor that bought the 750K home next to me, though I bought at 250K.

Prop 13 was the only choice? IME, I think not.

Actually I would have had similar attitudes as you as a first time mum as regards my family and my children being in care and 11 years later I see things very differently.

Those doors look OK but the people posing in front of them look pretty unstable to me ;)

"Economic forces" created by younger people who've now decided the neighborhood is hot.
