"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

Ok, so gimmicky and unsound because you don't think it's fair. We're all better off. I can't see how anyone would be worse off, unless they spent their time whining that they pay more than their next door neighbor.

The schools aren't doing as well, no, but I don't think it has anything to do with Prop 13. School funding per student has gone up since prop 13, not down. There are still plenty of school districts that are very good. IME, even the ones that test badly are still good.

I haven't noticed any "user fees" going upor being created, but then again, garbage and such has never been something provided by the city in the first place. Not as far as I remember, at least.

Why should she move because someone arbitrarily decided her neighborhood is posh? You know, all I can think of is all of dh's older relatives who most definitely would have to move away from Santa Cruz, where they have all lives since they were children. I can't even begin to imagine what would be fair about that.

To me, fairness means being able to afford to pay taxes set by market forces.

I'm not going to get into this tangent. I believe in a straight consumption tax.

That they are of equal necessity doesn't mean that they should behave the same. Taxes are not the same as food or shelter.

I don't know why it's volatile, it just is. Maybe I'll do a paper on it. ROFL.

That's the biggest part of it.

You're all better off with Prop 13? You speak for all Ca residents? I know that if voted on today, Prop 13 would probably pass again, but it still doesn't make fair or sound tax policy.

Prop 13, is the worst type tax policy, both progressive and regressive at the same time. I can't speak for all Ca residents, just IMO.

?

Therefore, it's not happening? Ok...

I'm done. You like Prop 13 and you live in Ca, I don't. I will continue to work on my town's budget committee to keep taxes affordable and fair. As long as I have a say, it will not be an acquisition-based system.

Because they were there first? Because they were smart enough to buy it when they could afford it?

How is what you're describing not the really just eminent domain being perverted to profit the wealthy at the expense of the less well off?
