Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.
I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

Yes. We. Did.
A 10% per year in the current economic climate is not reasonable in any community. Ma has a statewide cap at 2.5% in property tax valuations, RI has a 5.25% cap on the yearly increases for each property taxpayer, we've discussed Prop 13 in Ca in this thread. State imposed draconian measures do work in the absence of responsible budgeting to prevent a rapid rise in property taxes. You really think a 10% increase every year is reasonable? BTW, I do think that paying less often has a direct correlation to a demand for accountability.
Really? I was a programmer for these systems in the 90s, and zero sum accounting for these systems was always the requirement. I consulted for WAMU and BofA and I know they were tied to RESPA rules. I'm not a lawyer, so I didn't actually read (or care about) the law, just had to listen to the dang lawyers to program what worked best for the banks. Please enlighten on your understanding of the rules? Feel free to site sources. I'll admit that my knowledge is anecdotal in nature, but, come on, the two largest mortgage banks leaving money on the table? I think not.
>>I'm not sure what you mean - are you questioning the legality? The $1 transfer does "fly" and is very legal. It's also common among inter-family transfers. It's also common among charitable transfers to charitable organizations, localities, etc.<<
You were asking how it would work with the prop 13 system. I was saying that it wouldn't fly as a value to base the taxes on, and that in that case, they would use the actual value of the property at the time of purchase. I'm well aware that it happens.
>>It's not rare at all.<<
In relation to overall purchases? Yeah it is. Probably less than one in 1000.
"With all the working women out there who say they just want to get married, have kids and not work, who actually do end up getting married, having kids and not working....would it be safe to assume that there could be some stay-at-home-moms who are secretly staying at home because they dont' want to work? And maybe they are covering up this fact by saying
As are we by the thought that you behave as though those of us who WOH and possess functional ovaries don't know there's more to life than money, that we live in some rich fog that blinds us to the quality of life. It's insulting and you've voiced it several times now. BTW, you DO have more than you need--you have TWO adults in your household, which gives you the LUXURY of letting one work while the other SAHs and tells the rest of us that we sacrifice time with our kids for material goods.
The FACTS are it's really easy to say money isn't that important when you have a source of it that doesn't depend on YOU specifically bringing it in.

When I hear of someone that saves a ton with coupons, it makes me wonder just what the heck they're eating.
