"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

"Your conotation of the word sacrifice is yours."

Ditto.

"You don't like that particular word, but I certainly can't think of a better one that is quite as precise. So I will stand by my use since it is accurate. "

I think that choice is a word that works.

I chose to SAH for 12.5 years.

30 years is fairly new? Ooookkk. You do know that interest rates were MUCH higher than they are now in the 80s?

Saw your edit. Unlike other states, property taxes are not the sole source of revenue for schools or services. It has little to do with buying a house one can or cannot afford. Although I do know that is your go-to button for anything that has anything to do with home buying.

We live in an area where I have never heard of this...so you get a box of produce for $50 -- not even knowing what's in it?

Did you actually read anything in that link? I have debated with Campbellover for a number of posts about the merits and, IMO, the lack thereof of Prop 13, but it was always about much more than "nobody likes high taxes". So, their taxes were not rising by 2.5% or even 4.5% that you find marginally acceptable, it was exponential and well into the double digits and even triple digits in some communities per year.

Renters suffered just as much as buyers with rapid property inflation and unchecked tax levies. Simple is not a word I'd ever associate with the property tax crisis in Ca.

I don't doubt that a better plan could be devised that would protect lower or fixed income home owners while still getting tax revenues from those who could afford to pay.

Ok. So again... how exactly are the two related? Other than your habit to relate everything to mortgage rates?

IME, yes. But I'm running for office in a town of pop 3,500, I'm not ready for the big stage yet. But look out HRC, if you're not the first woman president, Currie is looking towards 2012 or 2016! Except for that pesky native birth constitution thing, it's the only thing holding me back, ... and lack of money, ... and lack of ability to compromise on core principles ...

Howard Jarvis was a nut with a crazy plan in an insane financial climate. I understand why Ca voters made the choices they did, I just think they may have been really good options in between that rock and the hard place.
