"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

There's a little more involved than that.

So with property taxes being incredibly low, do you think that loss in tax revenue is made up elsewhere?

I know I've hired babysitters for the express purpose of getting a break from my kids, no other reason.

My brother and SIL belong to a CSA and they are at the mercy of whatever Farmer John happened to plant that season.

Unless they wanted the schools to suffer, the lost property tax revenue had to made up elsewhere.

Chris, does Dylan's school offer any languages at the elementary level?

I guess we don't agree then. Market value is what homes sell for. What the rest of them are "worth" is appraised value, not market value. If a couple of homes sell for more then what they had been selling for, it means that the market value has gone up.

And yes, from my experience. I'm quite familiar with it, actually.

I'm not sure if it is made up elsewhere. Tax revenue has still increased every year since prop 13, it just doesn't increase as much, so I'm not sure I agree with your assessment that property taxes are "incredibly low". I think I mentioned to Currieri earlier that my in laws pay almost twice what she does for property taxes for a similarly priced home. Prop 13 hasn't made property taxes inexpensive. Plus, it doesn't apply to commercial properties.
