"I just don't want to work"

Hi all... I'm new to the board and I am curious.

I am in my mid twenties, unmarried, no children. I work in an extremely competitive field with many other women my age. Many of us are making six figures and the job is very stressful. We all have a great work ethic, but sometimes when the stress gets really bad, I'll often hear the girls (never the guys) saying things like "Arrgghh... I'm so sick of work. I just want to marry a rich man, have kids, stay home and NOT WORK."....... I was raised by two working parents (two very loving, caring hardworking parents). My mother was very successful in her career, and I feel that when I get married, I will (like my mom) continue to work and raise children at the same time (my mom was definitely "super mom" ---she did it all and was great!)...... My main question: many of the women in my work stay in the position for about 5-7 years and then leave.....the funny thing is...

Sadly, DS1 has no musical talent (which doesn't stop him from singing),

Actually, I don't want to leave my kids w/ someone else while I work, even a p/t job. Especially since it's so costly to do with two children and wouldn't actually help bring in any money. So I do this (which really doesn't take much time since I pay a small fee to get the list and they tell what deals are OK and what are great). It takes me less time to do this than work a p/t job. Before I discovered this our budget was about $90-100/wk, so I actually adjusted it down because I discovered I didn't need so much money in the budget after the first few weeks of stockpiling.

Most areas have some farmers that use hot houses. But what's wrong with freezing and canning?

I worked pt for 5 years and the only someone else my kids were with was their father or grandparent. I worked about 12 hours a week and made a pretty substantial income. Now I wah during their school hours so again, no childcare needed.

I'd rather do that than scrape by on groceries or have to freeze things for several months.

I don't think we have very many hot houses around here. There is a guy at our Farmer's market that sells hot house tomatoes though. . . I imagine it would be fairly expensive to heat them all winter here since it gets pretty cold.

I don't think there is anything wrong with freezing or canning. I have canned spaghetti sauce, green beans, and gooseberry jam in my basement and frozen peaches, applesauce, blackberries, lima beans, and corn in my freezer. I hope to do more next year :)

""LOL, beats me; my eyes glaze over at discussions involving that much work in food gathering."

Well, I'm a SAHM, it's my job."

I am a sahm, too and I still have my once a week grocery run rule.

I much prefer to eat produce that is locally grown, even if it means it's been frozen or canned. I don't like eating produce that has been shipped all the way across the country or from another country. I imagine all the fuel that has been used to get it from CA or Chile or wherever to my plate.

I only buy for 3 months at a time. Most of your best produce in MOST areas comes out in spring and fall. Check out your farmer's market to discover what grows outside of summer.
