I would spend 0 hours/day at the office, 24 hours/day with LO! Unfortunately for me, that's not an option because I don't want to be evicted for failure to pay the rent, lose our health insurance, lose my pension, default on my student loans, and go without food. So, I spend 8 hours/day at the office.
I usually get up between 6:30 and 7 at this time of year. That's when Dylan has to get up for school and when the kids get up every day. I don't mind the hour. What I mind is having to leave the house by 7:30.

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie!'... till you can find a rock.
If I could keep my job the same, same compensation, etc. but simply do it in fewer hours, I'd say 9:30 to 4.
Assuming I still had to commit to a fixed 45 hours in the office, 8 to 5 works great for us.
