And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

I think the money is valued. Ita with the rest of it. I see that as part of being a parent & not in comparison to volunteering.

But don't those organizations ALSO need people like me or FSW who are more then willing to donate money?

Only somewhat related, a bumper sticker I saw today "The world will be a better place when schools have all the money they need and the air force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber"

Emphasized in my mind the need for volunteers.

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

Volunteers to help raise money donated by the folks who aren't volunteering their time.

(yes, I realizes that the volunteers often times also donate, but if they were the ONLY people donating...then their wouldn't be a enough money)

"How about this "bfing *with absolutely no use of bottles whatsoever*" ... seems to work for me."

Gee, that's as *original* as it is *predictable* LOL.

"BTW, my dd NEVER had a bottle. Had only breastmilk until about 5 mo. Eventually worked herself up to real people food. Was using a cup by 9mo.

And gee, I did all this while WOH/WAH.

Hmm, so how long did you continue to bf *with absolutely no use of bottles whatsoever*? Also, how did you bf on demand without the use of bottles while WOH? I'm guessing that you *exclusively* bf for 5 months while you WAH, and then WOH thereafter? Again, how exactly did you manage bfing on demand *with absolutely no use of bottles whatsoever* while WOH? Just curious. BTW, do you have other children?

Thank you for your honesty.

I didn't give up practicing law just because I had a child or two.

I needed a respite because caring for an infant is incredibly hard and exhausting, and not very rewarding at the beginning.

Volunteering and donating are not mutually exclusive. In my volunteer activties, I am always reminded that volunteering does not subsitute for donating. I have to do both, to the extent that I am able. JUst as there would be no Christmas baskets to hand out ere it not fr monetary donations, likewise, there woudl be no Thanksgiving turkeys on needy tables if no one was around to pass them out.
