And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

"I didn't give up just because I had a child or two. I'm still me, just with an added, major dimesion to my life. Becoming a mother changed me, but did not change every single thing about me. I was me . . . before my first child was born. When I am 55 and the baby goes off to freshman year in college, I'll still be me. . . .I like being a mom, but I like other things too!" You seem to think that distinguishes you from SAHMs. To me it sounds just like EVERY mom I know, SAH OR WOH.

You gave up your career for your ds and dh.

I did it "exclusively" as long as you did ... about 5 months. I continued to bf until about 9-10 months when dd weaned herself.

Not exactly right. I did WAH most of the time, but DID have to go to the office and to

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

Wonderful! I'm so pleased to hear of someone who gets so much out of staying home to raise a child and who so thoroughly enjoyed being a SAHW. One of the best times of my life was the month off before my first was born. I painted Raggedy ANn, Peter Rabbit, shelves, door knobs (acrylic not oil - it's safer), knit, sewed, read entire novels from cover to cover! As it is now with my 3, I can barely fit into the week all the activities I want to do with them. Tomorrow, we'll travel to 3 different states to accomplish the outings I've planned! Other than the Jr. League (which is really my ladies night out each month, but in a much more genteel way I guess), I do not have time to volunteer. And I don't give it another thought.

I don't understand why the women here have such a hard time accepting the joy of not working. Don't retirees enjoy filling their days with things other than working and volunteering? In fact, that's pretty much why everyone looks forward to retiring - no more work.

BTW, our discussion yesterday inspired me to start again the curtains for my DD's room. I completed one panel, including fringe! Progress will be slow, but I know she'll appreciate it and I love making my house a home. I won't even attempt clothes. You must be quite talented!

Again thanks for your kind expression of words. I feel the same way, why can't people understand how some like us really do enjoy our lives at home, being sahws!

I adore sewing. Not only my own designs but a pattern is so exciting to me. Good luck in your endeavor and again, thank you.

I'm online shopping for fabric tonight, it is like being in a candy store.
