And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

They work hand in hand. Without one, you don't have the other.

Yes, dh and I have been married going on 14 years and we never for once thought sahw meant it was your job to clean, cook, garden, and mow. He will be surprised to hear that one.

No I didn't. (BTW what you said was "just" because a woman has a kid or two.) As for quitting my job "for" my DH, DH didn't even want me to stop working. I quit my job because it was the only way "I" was going to be the woman and parent and spouse I wanted to be. You're the opposite side of the coin. I'm quite sure your being the woman and parent and spouse you want to be absolutely necessitates you maintaining your career.

Then you're even. She doesn't really and truly get the choose-to-SAH thing for moms, either.

Why do you think it is so terrible for a mother to work? Not why YOU wouldn't work, but why is it so terrible for ANY mother to work? I know why I will be going back to work. And I can fully understand why others would not care to do so. So I am interested in what you think is SOOOOO terrible about a mother having a job?

Not necessarily. She may have given up her career, but it may not have been for her ds and dh. I know that I did not give up my career for my ds and dh. When I went to pt work I knew I was giving up my career. But it wasn't done for anyone else.

It was done for me. I felt that I needed to be spending more time on home and family. I did not give up working altogether and I will go back to working pt in a few months. But when I gave up my career I didn't do it for anyone else. I did it for myself. My dh and kids may have reaped a benfit from that, but that is not the reason I gave it up. I felt my life was out of balance and giving up the career portion of my life brought it more in balance. I can't speak for all women but many give up their careers willingly and do it at least partially for themselves.
