And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

Exactly! I don't have a problem with people choosing not to volunteer. What bugs me is this insistence that it is not volunteering. Like the word is dirty. Like to admit she volunteers would be admitting to something horrible.

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

"In fact, that's pretty much why everyone looks forward to retiring - no more work. "

But momofhk does think it's terrible for any mom of pre-school age children to WOH if she has a financial choice.

Being a mother just gets better and better, at least for me.

Dd just turned 14 months and everyday is better and better. Just made me realize how hard it really was at the beginning (and stressful and unrewarding)...and now we are about to wreck our almost-perfect utopia with a new, crying ball of need in a few short weeks. I don't think that being a good mother means you have to love every single stage of growing...how many moms are in total love with the teenage years?? But somehow, that's okay, but not wanting to be around a demanding infant is appalling. Sure, I decided to sah...but there were MANY days (more than I like to admit) that I wanted to be somewhere, anywhere (a sausage factory or slaughter house!) else.... ha ha.
