And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

Have you ever considered selling your handbags and purses on eBay?

Hugs,

Hmmm. No, but you know, I may give that a thought. I have quite a stock & continue to sew almost daily. Thanks for the idea. Something to definately ponder....

I certainly didn't find it very rewarding in the beginning. I had a case of New Mom Anxiety. Rather than feeling "amazed and empowered" that I could care for somebody so tiny, I felt terrified that once false move and she would die. After 9 months marinating in information on SIDS and other tragedies of infancy, I was scared 24/7. She was so tiny, so floppy, so squishy. I felt always on the verge of accidentally crushing her little hummingbird body and when she slept, everything I'd read about SIDS would haunt me so I couldn't sleep myslef and would always have to lightly touch her chest to feel it still moving.

"What exactly did you think it was going to be like?" My ideas were a mishmash of friends stories ("you'll lose sleep" was a common thread) and the medical literature- which warns moms about SIDS repeatedly. The only people who know EXACTLY what it's going to be like are the ones who already have one or more children. New parents don't know what to expect- other than what others have told them- so it is absurd to criticize people for not knowing what something they've never done before will be like.

Perhaps you brought your first baby home with the perfect confidence that he/she was robust enough to survive any mistakes you might make and that SIDS (my personal terror) could not possibly happen. I lived in terror until dd had passed the age where SIDS was a concern.

You know what? I am very proud that my church has the courage to engage in the struggle. It's very much a part of my faith to believe in the value of disagreement, when done passionately but respectfully, and of hashing it all out.

I feel for American Catholics of conviction, I really do, it's not an easy position to be in in this day and age. (Of course, many American Catholics are really closeted Episcopalians, LOL!)

My 28 month old still takes a bottle of formula before bed. His ped is okay with it as long as we brush his teeth afterwards. Since he was lactose-intolerant for so long, that was the only way to ensure he was getting enough calcium. We've cut the nap bottle, but he still asks for the nighttime bottle.

AMEN! And I'm not going to get into my PPD here, but I'll state FTR that it's taken me over two years to decide we're ready for another kid. Those first six weeks (until they medicated me) were hell. Pure hell.

Taking the LSAT, going to law school and passing the bar were a total piece of cake compared to mothering a newborn.

Motherhood has nothing to do with work status. Sorry to deflate your tremendous opinion of yourself.

What happens if my kids turn out wonderfully and yours don't?
