And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.

Well, you see, its called being young and dumb, or you can refer to it as "damn smart". dh and i started dating at the end of 10th grade, and probably six months into our relationship, i realized(to myself, never verbalized it) if we were talking about getting married, we would have to move somewhere far away from his mother, or we would never last. in 1979 there were *no* jobs at least in the northeast(where we lived), so moving far just happened. he was offered a very "secure" job with "big blue", as they were relocating their plant and were hiring. dh could *not* get a job with them up north, so we said, what the hell. the company's mock motto was "i've been moved", and i wanted to see the country, so what better way to do it? ok. fast forward 25years later. we still live within ten miles of our first apt!!! the col is lower here(at least it was back then) and we had nothing when we started out. we knew we wanted kids, and we knew it wouldnt be easy, but we also knew the kids would grow up, and there would eventually be financial releif. we bit the bullet, and worked it out. we ate a lot of hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken and spaghetti, and did not go out much at all. we didnt live in a shack, but our home we bought needed a lot of work, and was small. we simply worked our way up and out, so now today, we are not "extremely" comfortable, but we are a lot more comfortable than those days.

i have never liked living so far from home and still dont, but have made the best of it. my two oldest kids are living on their own, and we all have decided, in the next couple years we are going to live within a close enough distance to visit and go home to our own beds at night. the traveling to see family really takes its toll, although by now, i can pack for a trip in about five minutes without forgetting anything!! LOL.

these people who have planned out their lives perfectly and then announce how well it worked for them, and it is the best for everyone, just make me want to hurl. there *is* more than one way to skin a cat, and we all *choose* how to do it.

oh, btw, all three of our kids are bright, happy, healthy, compassionate young adults. what else can we ever ask for?

You know my kids were and ARE extremely curious about a lot of things, however if it's not in their best interest and could be damaging...yes I tell them no.

You say "And according to my dd's ped. as long as she was sitting unaided and showed an interest in the cup, introducing a cup with small amounts of juice or water, was perfectly healthy."

So it was "perfectly healthy." But was it "waaaaay better" than NOT giving juice in a cup for a longer waiting period? And what's NOT healthy about giving ebm in a cup? Please, ask your ped if you have to. What is UNHEALTHY about ebm in a sterilized cup?

You're just 100% right and perfect....in your own mind.
