And your dh made enough $$ to support both of you comfortably, do you think you would be working?

To put it bluntly, your pediatrician sounds like an ego-pandering idiot to me. I bet his entire practice is composed of Mommy Olympians, all of whom think you can tell the status of a child's digestive enzymes by the ability (or lack) to sit upright unassisted.

I would have dumped him the moment he made such a ridiculous comment. I prefer *my* family's doctors to base their advice on logic, rational thinking and scientific facts.

Sterilized cups? Sure...if you live in CALCUTTA. But here in the US, water treatment has evolved somewhat beyond the days of dumping raw sewage into the ground source.

I would not have introduced my dd to a bottle or cup of juice at 5 months and yes, she could sit unassisted. Juice, to me, is not something a child needs to be drinking at that age. Bm or ebm (in a bottle, not a cup by my own preference) is perfectly acceptable. No sterilizing required per my pediatrician.

I don't think giving juice is wrong at this age, it just is not something I decided to do with my dd. I didn't even ask my ped, I figured that one out for what is right for my dd on my own.

We also offered a blankie & binky. No harm done.

Going out of town first few wks/mos not recommended by your ped? WHY on earth WHY?

We took our dd on a plane to an island for vacation very early. Our ped said to have a good time.

She took her kids at early ages & she is a pediatrician.

What does your recommend? Wait until they can walk, talk, and sit unassisted to drink juice from a cup before plane rides & vacations are acceptable?

I wondered if she was sterilizing the plates, fork, bowls her dd is using or is it just those pesky cups?

Well, of course anything can happen and there is no guarantee, however, my ds1 is very unattached, and can up and move whenever he wants. he moved to florida to get a clean start away from us. now that he has matured, he understands the advantage of family and actually misses us. we are all kind of waiting til dd graduates to see what she is going to do. i will not live far from her, as i know it was painful for my mom to be so far from me, but thank goodness she had/has my sister. as far as the travel and guilt trips, it just doesnt exist. i feel if there is a will there is a way, and will never expect my kids to load up their family and put them all on a plane to come see me on a whim. i fully expect to make an effort to go to them more, but for now, while all the kids are single, and we all agree we *want* to be close to each other, we are all going to try to make it happen. we also agree no matter what, we will all stay on the east coast, so as not to be more than a days drive away if we cant be close enough to go home in the evening.

as far as moving around with companies goes, dh started with "big blue" and i agreed as i *wanted* to move around. it never happened, so im stuck on the other side of the earth, and refuse to stay here forever. i will be near some of my family in the next five years, one way or the other.
