I saw a little bit about this this morning, and immediately thought of this board.

i don't know, i don't think 2200.00 is the cost to regulaly maintain a car. we have a european car now, the labor rate is 79.00 an hour, up 10.00 from what we paid for a domsteic car. parts are expensive, yes but it's not going to cost me 2200. a pop to replace something unless i get hit or i hit something. i do think a damage claim in the amount of 2200.00 is alot of money and i do think my future premiums would go up, esp if it's my fault.

shudder, hit and run! i've been lucky, no major accident. there was one incident when i thought another motorist who was equally at fault for a minor fender bender was going to come after me for damages. there was another incident a couple yrs ago when it was raining and i slid into a car in front of me, i followed the guy into a parking lot so he could get out and inspect the damage, there was none and we both wished eachother a good day! :-)

i don't know if i'm following this correctly but 2200.00 sounds like a lot of damage.

It appears that AAA estimates that the cost of ownership of the average vehicle is 10K a year if you drive 10K miles a year. That includes maintenance, gas, insurance, taxes and registration, and depreciation.

Maintaining a car varies by model, but if it exceeds 3500 a year, you probably need a different car.
