I saw a little bit about this this morning, and immediately thought of this board.

We got $0 as a trade in for the old mini van, she was a good old girl who must be living a second life because we received a nice tax donation amount after donating to a charity.

I got in a fender bender last year--a big 1/2 ton truck hit my bumper & he was probabaly only going 10 mph or so, it was at a stop light.

i wasn't expecting a thing for it, we shopped about three or four dealerships before buying our car.

ok, and i agree. but if you can't afford to maintain a car you really shouldn't own one, i feel the same way about a house. it's not going to cost 2200.00 a year to maintain our car.

Wow! I really can't imagine going into debt for a wedding. That seems so incredibly silly, to me that is. Our "reception" was a nice lunch in MIL's back yard. My mother and I had cooked most of the food.

"The other? God only knows. I pray a lot." LOL. Me, too. I'm just a wee bit worried about the one who wants to buy a castle in Scotland with the earnings from her first novel.

It's patently false that no college student is ofered a card with a 10K limit.

True, since I am college student and, at least pre-crisis, I was offered 5-10K of credit at least once a month. I have no use for more than one card, but the one I have also has a high limit and then there is the free credit line at the bank (which I never use) and that is up to 10K as well.

We pay the school bill with the credit card, EGD, then pay the credit card company the day the bill comes in. We pay no fees or interest to the credit card company and they give us six hundred dollars. It is a good deal. How is going into debt better than running a bill through a credit card company?

Excellent question.

The interst on government student loans is subsidized. It costs the government money to loan you money for school, even if you pay every penny back.
