I saw a little bit about this this morning, and immediately thought of this board.

I wasn't comparing it to welfare, although one could. What I took issue with was your assertion that you did a good thing by getting a student loan, almost like it was the "citizeny" thing to do.

*not to you, but the thread in general*

This reminds me that just yesterday, I checked my online acct for my cc, and realized I'd earned enough cash rewards to request a check. I'll be getting $150 in the mail anyday now!

my husband took our son to the oral surgeon, i really don't remember if he wrote a check or swiped teh cost through our visa/debit card. 40% is cool, private practice doctors don't offer that kind of stuff IME.

edited to clarify something, we did get 50% back from our insurance after the claim was filed, that's how that worked.

DS had oral surgery last spring, the doctor's plan wtih the insurance was different than other medical experiences, we paid for the total bill up front then the doctor's office files the claim for which we get refunded an amount of what we paid up front later, about 4 months later, we received a generous check. what's nice is when you get these kinds of things in the mail that you're not waiting for or expecting esp in large sums like that. it's not like we were on pins and needles waiting because we owed a credit card!

There's nothing wrong with a student loan. But it isn't altruistic - which is what was inferred from your other post.

My ortho offers a 10% discount for immediate payment. Whether that is cash or credit card or check doesn't matter.

There is nothing "wrong" with a student loan if that is the only way the student has to pay for college.

i think DH's health insurance is pretty good, i'm not complaining. they do cover up to 2000.00 for braces/ea kid but the catch is that tap compromises dental work cost for the year if kid needs it too. so far so good with DD number one, we've been clear of any additional dental costs and we get almost all of that back for her braces. two kids to go, Lol. a friend of mine has told us to take advantage of expense accoutns employers offer, i don't know what kind of total savings we will gain but we may experiment with that when kid two gets braces!
