OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Do you ever use coupons on TOP of the sale item? I have gotten things for pennies by doing this.

I've been following this thread and while I haven't posted here in a long time, I just wanted to chime in and say that I totally understand where you are coming from with the couponing. All I've done is combine multiple coupon inserts/printables with sales items and store promotions, and in just a matter of 3 months time, I've not only cut my family's grocery budget by 50%, I've also amassed a solid stockpile of dry goods, HBA items, and cleaning supplies.

By spending less, in three month's time, I've managed to donate:

3 bags of HBA items to a struggling college student
8 bags of groceries to a struggling single parent
5 boxes of heart-healthy, high fiber, organic cereals to a heart patient (I paid .50 per box)

I get a lot of freebie items from CVS and similar stores. I am in the process of sharing a lot of my deals with family members to help ease their weekly budgets, while teaching them to coupon at the same time.

My end goal is to be able to donate food and supplies to the food banks, which are always in need, and especially so as the economy worsens.

I spend $8 per week on newspapers and buying multiple copies of coupons from clipping services. I make 4 shopping trips per week. This is a lot of time to invest, but if I can help families in need, I totally consider it well worth my time.

Prior to couponing in this manner, my grocery bill was out of hand and I never, ever believed that I could afford to donate. And yes, I work a full time job and have a family too :)

I have gotten coupons for produce, meat (usually on the package $1-$2 off). Not sure about seafood as only I eat it so I don't buy it very often.

Well I usually get my coupons in my mail (no buying of a newspaper even though we do enjoy the Sunday paper so we will buy it sometimes). Costco sends me coupons in the mail (free). I get the store coupons on the back of the receipt (free)-even though they steer me to another brand and sometimes I will try it. Restaurants and fast food are in the circulars I get in my mail also.

We buy all sorts of foods.

Are you saying you NEVER buy any type of junk food? What types of food do your kids or yourself snack on everyday?

I know it is possible to save money because I have been doing it for so many years. People just don't want take the time to cut them out (or even just to print them now online). They are online anyway, so why not??-lol!!
