OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

My child has been taught the same. We are not at a dinner party here. We are discussing, among other things lol,how we feed our families. In that context, Mac and cheese from a pouch/powder/box IS basically junk.

Not everyone has the time, inclination or liking (especially my family-lol!!) for homemade things though."

That strongly suggests that your family prefers convenience and junk food.

PS: I neither cursed at you or made fun of you. I made a value judgment of mac and cheese from a box. Not all foods are made equal.

FTR, I did not mock it. I simply stated the opinion that is nasty and not a good choice in food. We do not eat mac and cheese, but we eat other crappy foods. All the same we know that they are crappy. Shrug!

OK, last night I made fresh baby cod fish (whole fish) baked on a rack over sliced potatoes and onions. We had a green salad made from romaine lettuce that I cut, washed and dried. By our standards this is close to being fast food, in the sense that it is a meal that is simple and easy to cook. I made 5 fish and we only ate 4. So there is cold fish left that can make another meal for someone.

I'm not the least bit offended that someone would think that

LOL, I tried those box potatoes once, when I was new in the US. That was also nasty. I never did it again. It does mean that we do not eat mashed potatoes that often, but so what?

We don't often have enough left overs for another meal (like lunch the following day) but we often have enough to add to the next meal.

We go through spurts when it comes to potatoes.
