OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

I think it's something like $3-4ish per pound. I use about half of that for a pizza since we don't like it too cheesy. The kids' current favorite pizza has a lot of tomato slices (previously soaked in some olive oil, salt, oregano and thyme) and is then topped with some mozzarella, a few slices of ventricina and some olives.

I often make pizza with other kinds of cheese, sometimes a cheap mozz type cheese, but sometimes with goat cheese, for example. I make the pizza on the baking sheet, and one sheet will feed the 3 of us. A Domino's pizza costs around 12 euros here. For the homemade, I make a dough which costs maybe 50 cents worth of flour, top with 4-5 tomatoes (1 euro or so), cheese (2-3 euros) and maybe a green pepper, a few olives etc.

Then you did not understand what was meant obviously. It is not good food and is better left on the supermarket shelf.

"No, you make an immature statement. Obviously there are plenty of people out there who enjoy m&c from a box and that is why it is made."

Ack! Just because people like something does not make it good. Lots of people love McDonalds hamburgers, but those things are NOT good for you. Likewise M&C from a box is not good, nutritious food. It is cheap convenience food. From that POV it is nasty, like fast food is nasty and velveeta spray can cheese is nasty. I did not mean "nasty" as in "wahh, I don't liiiike it."

Yes, exactly. Apart from that there is also an esthetic problem, you might call it. Whatever we serve to kids at home is in a sense "mother endorsed." In their eyes we are putting our stamp of approval on it and entering it into the category of good, normal foods that belong in the family. IOW, M&C from a box is bad food culture.

You are still missing the point.

Cost (boxed M&C is cheaper than real cheese and cream), convenience and availability (you can find a boxed food at any corner store, finding all the fresh ingredients for a proper meal can be hard in some poor neighborhoods). Finally, as you have just illustrated, many people don't know any better and don't care about their nutritional health.

BTW, dd has been reading nutrition labels for years, but you are right that many people are clueless about nutrition.

OK, so you were ignorant about nutrition and did not care anyway. Some people do care, especially when they have kids to feed.
