OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Are you not aware of what most children's diets consist of? Have you ever looked at the "kids" menu at most restaurants?

$1-2 for a single tomato???? Seriously? Even in Sweden I get tomatoes for a lot less than that. I think it costs me about $1-2 for 5-6 tomatoes.

The pizza dough costs maybe about 50 cents at most (a couple of cups of flour, a bit of yeast, some olive oil).
Do you use some special flour for pizza dough?

I think the breakdown is something like:

Pizza dough $0.50
tomatoes $2
mozzarella $2
Vetricina (just a few slices) $1

Hmmm, that's actually about $5.50. If I throw olives on top (I don't always) it costs a bit more, about $6.50.

I also often use goat cheese, which is a bit cheaper than mozzarella. I usually top goat cheese pizzas with some baby spinach, roasted bell pepper, mushrooms and red onion. I think it works out to be around $5-6 as well since I usually roast the bell pepper myself, and the other ingredients are also fairly cheap.

Pre-packaged pizza would cost at least $10-15 for the whole family. Take-out pizza is more expensive.

Do you think this is a uncommon meal, especially for kids.

I think it should be.

One of my favorites uses Feta cheese. I do buy the flat bread from my natural food grocery store instead of making my own. Oil from the marinated articoke hearts, herbs, garlic, diced up articoke hearts, sliced Roma tomatoes, red onion, sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, and crumbled Feta cheese.

i make my own mac & cheese. Generally, I make two trays and then dh and I have plenty of leftovers to take to work over the next week.

Of course, the mac and cheese that I make is a bit upscale.

I have to admit, I've only made my own pizza once.....It was a big flop.
