OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

I started making my own pizza when I discovered that ds doesn't hate all pizzas, just those available in Sweden (take-out or packaged) :-). He loved the pizzas we bought in Italy. So, I decided to start making them at home, and ds loved them. I find pizza to be one of the easier, quicker meals to make. I just have to make sure I can start the pizza dough early enough so that it has an hour to rise before use.

I've always loved the skin on a baked potato but it wasn't until Joy got married that I started leaving it on the mashed potatoes. It gives an almost nutty taste to the potatoes. And I always have good quality margarine on hand.

We don't use margarine, only butter....that's one reason that I don't make mashed potatoes very often, lol.

I'm a disaster with some types of cooking (grilling comes to mind). In those cases, I either leave the cooking to dh or we skip it entirely.

Yes, those thingies must be convenient for certain things. We do not have a microwave.

Cool! It never occurred to me and I am not sure dd would go for it, but it is certainly worth a try.

What do you consider "American food"? I am very, very fond of bagels, cheesecake, brownies, burritos, guacomole (yes, I know those are Mexican, but in LA at least it is a native food), pancakes (American ones), muffins, brisket, hash browns, pastrami, rabe with garlic, those lovely things they make from deep-fried dough at Italian street fairs, cranberries, California Merlot, maple syrup, sweet potato and pecan pie, lemon-meringue pie, pumpkin pie, ok pretty much any kind of American pie, New England clam chowder, split pea soup ... there are more, but those are some of my favorite American foods.

No idea, but it sounds like a bad idea for a regular stand-by meal for anyone. I never did much by way of kid food. We have mostly all eaten the same thing most of the time, with some adjustments and exceptions here and there.
