OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

This is just stupid.

That's not what she has said or implied at all.

Hazel, it's like playing pretend. Pretend you are in a family of 4 with two children under 4. You live in your area. You bought a house 5 years ago. You are trying to watch your expenses, because your salaries are lower than you would like. You are a dual WOH family. You try to keep your utility bills at a minimum. You have health insurance, but at a good rate because it is through your employer and they subsidize the cost of lower income employees. You don't have to pay childcare because your mom lives in the area and doesn't work. You do save for retirement and college, and your employer matches your retirement savings 5%. This family doesn't have a car payment. They have car insurance on two cars. Etc.

How are THESE estimates? I couldn't tell you how much my neighbors, in the same style and size home pay.

Health Insurance- $82/mo.
Retirement- $233/mo. + $233/mo. matching = $466/mo. total
Life Insurance and Long Term Disability- $20/mo.

College Savings- $300/mo.
Gas- $100/mo.
Misc.- $163/ mo.

A family can be as frugal as they want but if they have student loans and medical bills, they still might not be able to live on the same amount as the family that doesn't.

But in reality, there is NO sample and hypothetical budget for everyone no matter if they live in the same size house or not.

No one can say they SHOULD budget this much or that much for things. There are certain things, like heath insurance that is not the same and never would be from one family to the next. You can't possibly say that family A who lives in the same house that family B does can live on the same amount of money. IMPOSSIBLE.

Then why did she post this if the "sample" was not HER budget>

You can EXACT amounts, $82 is not an "approximate" number. Neither is the utility #.

Why can't you just admit that these are YOUR budget amounts and because you can live on $40,000, you think Family B who lives in the same house as yourself can do so also?

It was likely anAVERAGE, an ESTIMATE.
