OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Yes, exactly. She is demonstrating that in certain situations and given certain financial circumstances, it IS HYPOTHETICALLY POSSIBLE for a family somewhere in her area to live on $40,000.

<>

Nope, she never said or implied that. Saying that it is HYPOTHETICALLY POSSIBLE for someone to make it work is nowhere near the same as saying that it is actually possible for everyone.

I could care less if it was her budget, because obviously with the numbers she came up with it, it is. Why she can't just say "In my area, I am able to live on $40,000 like this...." instead of saying that someone with the same size family and home could live on that amount of money when that is IMPOSSIBLE to know.

No, not everyone uses exactly the same amount of electricity or gas. I was estimating. A family of four living in a 1000 sq ft house in my area, especially one who is frugal, could spend $60 or less on electricity (not including heating). If that family found they were spending more than $60/mo. on electricity, it was cutting into their savings, and they were determined to save, I imagine they would cut back their electricity usage.

It's hypothetically possible IF family A and family B had the EXACT bills. Do you know many families who have the same salary, same bills and same lifestyle in the same area?

Well, I suppose it's impossible to know if one could save a million dollars if they spent their money wisely.
