OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Based on average usage and utility costs in my area.

What on Earth are you talking about? It's hypothetically possible - period.

It is POSSIBLE for a family to earn $40,000 a year, regardless of their neighbor's income.
It is POSSIBLE for a family to spend $300 a month on food, regardless of what their neighbors eat.
It is POSSIBLE for a family to be debt-free, regardless of whether their neighbor has car payments and student loans.
Etc.
What part of POSSIBLE and HYPOTHETICAL do you keep confusing with ACTUAL?

My parents and I live in the same area. Why on Earth would living in the same area as them mean that we (Family A) would have to have the same salary, same bills, and same lifestyle as them (Family B)? What do their jobs, their bills, and their lifestyles have anything to do with what is possible for US?

(As an aside, I wish I had Internet Explorer so that I could put words in italics instead of all caps)

No. I could have easily chosen other examples if the data was public. I probably could have made my hypothetical family have one teacher and one city employee (fireman, police officer, etc.)

<>

Of course not. The salary ranges are enormous, for one thing. Salaries range from under $20K to six figures. I don't *think* anyone makes 7 figures, except the ex-football coach.

<>

Not at all actually.

>>>I know there is data out there for "average" home prices and utilities but you can not say hypothetically that a family making $40,000 would have these "average" bills.

Actually she can. Actually, 'hypothetically' is pretty much an opening to say whatever the hell one pleases. For example:

'Let us hypothetically examine a person who is drawn to engage in endless, pointless battles regarding language syntax and semantics, even when it is both inaccurate and has nothing to do with the larger point at hand. Class - as an exercise - what might we surmise about that person from this hypothetical situation.'

See - easy-peasy.

Maybe we should keep the posts on THIS board only on THIS board. You can go back to the other if you want to talk about something else there. :)

I could hypothetically live next to a family of midgets with Tourette's syndrome.

more the outburst, vocalizing type Tourette's, or the physical tics? Hypothetically speaking, that is...

Yes, if but if my hypothetical family is using more than $215 worth of utilities (which was a generous estimation), they could start line drying their clothes, turning down their thermostat, and taking shorter showers in order to put more savings. It's hypothetical. My imaginary family can do whatever I want them to do.

Hypothetically, it would be verbal outbursts, usually quotes from The Wizard of Oz.

At 3:00pm you hear through the walls "LOLLIPOP GUILD!!!".
