OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

There are mortgage calculators all over the place....it's pretty easy to punch in the estimated numbers (based on the are you live in) and come up with a *hypothetical* payment.

No, she said someone in HER area. And someone was stating that it would be very hard to live on that amount with just 3 people and not 4.

Your taxes and homeowners must be very low as a 30 yr. $100,000 mortgage at 5% (which I think is very low and not the going rate) is $536/month. So you would be able to pay taxes and homeowners on $64/month-$3,300 a year for both?

You never adjust your budget to help you decide if you can afford something? Make a *hypothetical* budget-- For example, say you want to buy a new car, but you aren't sure if you can afford it or not. So you move a little from the savings category to the new car category and a little from the car repair category on paper first to see if you can swing the car payment? Because that's a hypothetical budget.

The people at work? I know they make about $20K but that's about it.

Yes. Taxes and insurance are low here. That's the point. COL is very low.
