OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

That's not robbing peter, that's reallocating funds.

I am pretty sure the poster said that her rent was just a little less than her mortgage. Depending on where you live, you can own for about the same you rent.

But your reality is not anyone else's reality.

That's not robbing peter, that's reallocating funds. You've never found that with, say a new car, you spend less on repairs and/or fuel, and can reallocate that money to the payment? Or, maybe bought new natural gas appliances (instead of electric), and you moved money from the electric catagory to the gas catagory........

Not really. Every year my bills go up, taxes, homeowners, electric, cable/phone/internet, oil. We usually take our raises so we don't have to take from savings.

Where did the money come from for your new furniture? What about your vacation? Didn't you reallocate money from your savings to *purchase* these things?

I have always used the "5th week" for furniture and vacations.

With 5 kids I would think you would know about growing kids who need clothes and activities inside and outside of school.
