OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

PNJ wanted to know if a family could live on $40K and still save for college and retirement. The answer is yes, if they live frugally. If they save minimally if at all, for college and retirement, they can live comfortably without being particularly frugal.

If they are public, why did you say you won't show me? Do you have links for the public to see?

If she wanted to and was good at searching, she could even find my salary if she wanted to. It's available publicly, since I work for a public institution.

It has NOTHING to do with ME not being able to live on that. It is the point that if you are going to post a "budget" for a "hypothetical" family, at least make one that includes all areas of a budget. To ME, that just indicates that you can't live on that AND pay all your bills and have savings. WHICH, is a REAL budget to me, one that includes everything from soups to nuts.

Uh, duh, because she does not want to tell you where she works. Get over it already. Try the U.S. Census Bureau website. Half the people in the United States make less than $44k per household, so OBVIOUSLY it's possible to live on that. You don't need to know geschichtsgal's place of business in order to have proof of that.

OK, so you do not like the budget she made. How about we move on?

If you like, make a hypothetical budget for your area that DOES include all the categories you think it should have.

Because I don't want you to have that information.

Yes but you said you said it "in the beginning". They weren't a "frugal" family until PNJ questioned it.

"That was one of the things I specifically said at the beginning."

I don't know if you really don't get it, or if you're intentionally trying to be a pita....but your line of questioning in this thread certainly isn't making you look very bright.

Well that would be hard to do since I do not know everyone's bills, everyone's mortgage and everyone's lifestyle to determine how little a person COULD make in my area. I can tell you the average salary but that doesn't tell you much either.
