OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Do you live in the suburbs or a city? I thought it was a suburb.

Yes. But nothing I've said is outside the realm of normalcy for a family in my area.

It's a small city/large town.

I guess it is easier to pinpoint an amount you can live in your area as I don't think I could do it from my area. There are way too many variables.

Wow, we don't have to pay nearly that much for car insurance. My condolences.

I am sure you would be surprised to hear of how high our other bills are-lol!!

My taxes are LOW at $5,800/year. My gf at work pays $9,000 and another friend pays over $12,000!!

Our water is cheap on LI though-lol!! I only pay about $30-$40 every 3 months

Yes you could, if you understood how a hypothetical budget worked. What variables are so much more variable there?

Well for one, the prices of houses are so different. The taxes are so different from one house to the next, even on the same block.

You choose the variables for your hypothetical family. Decide whether one parent works or both. Decide whether they have a car or not. Decide whether they are vegetarian or eat meat every day. Decide whether they have one child or ten. Decide whether they keep their thermostat at 65 degrees or 80 degrees in the winter.

Their habits and preferences are entirely hypothetical since they are fictional, so YOU decide the variables, and then use your demographic data to estimate your fictional family's budget.

To everyone: Is it just me, or would this make a GREAT video game to teach children about budgeting? It's like Sims meets Quicken meets the Census Bureau.

Really? What's the range of house prices in your town? Aren't the taxes based on the assessed value of the house and/or the purchase price? Or do they randomly pick numbers out of a hat?
