OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

"They" are fictional. YOU decide if they bought their house 20 years ago or if they just bought one or if they are renting a 2-bedroom apartment.

They are fictional. YOU decide the size of their house or apartment. You decide what their bills are. Heck, you can even decide if they are White or Black, if they attend church or not, if they are fans of science fiction or if they prefer romantic comedies.

Use your imagination already.

That's why you set up the hypothetical situation. Imagine a family does make $90,000 in your area. It's a dual-WOH family. What are two jobs that a couple in your area might have where both salaries could add up to $90K. If they have those jobs, what benefits would they have? If they had CC debt could they save for college? Could they be paying off student loans and have a car payment? What neighborhood could they afford to live in with a salary of $90K? If they bought 10 years ago, in which neighborhood could they have afforded to buy a house? If they bought now? That's how setting up a hypothetical situation works.

I think my problem is I don't like to by hypothetical. I am a realist and like to know exact numbers and not something made up because I realize that everyone is different and have different lifestyles and bills. It is silly for me to figure out some made up family who may not even exist.

You can not just go by someone's salary and say, yes they can afford to live on that as I have seen many times before that some people live on credit, even with a decent salary for their main bills.

Sorry :(

Again, I as I told the op, I am not a hypothetical person. I find it silly (sorry) to think that just because there is a median salary in an area that it means that these people are able to live and to live without living on credit.

No. Apparently if I'm looking in the right place, it's 106.5. Why do others have such high taxes? Are their houses bigger and/or nicer? Or have you not been assessed in a while?

I can understand and respect that, but then you're really up a creek without a paddle in this debate. Just because many people can't live on $40k, that doesn't negate the fact that SOME people CAN live on $40k in certain areas given certain conditions (examples of those conditions have been given).

Everyone here except you seems to understand that SOME people out there in the United States CAN and DO live perfectly decent lives on that income. Not in your area, obviously, but that has nothing to do with the point of the thread.

If you don't want to deal with hypotheticals, that's fine, but you're in the wrong thread then.

That's including the surrounding county-- not just the city.

So, it's not completely random that they pay more in taxes-- it's based on tangible measurable things like the size, condition, and value of the home. So if you were to chose a house from the real estate listings you could figure out approximately what the taxes would be.

Yeah, but not to people who aren't an extreme on the other end.
