OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Ugh, my cousin. He has incurred massive debt by making really stupid decisions. He *could* have afforded to live within his means, but he chose not to.

So what exactly is your point? Besides "hypothetical budgets are stupid." Or is that it?

Well, then, you'll see them in bankruptcy court very soon because the next shoe to drop in the US economy will be the freezing of credit card market.

BTW - What does CC debt have to do with Jessica posing a hypothetical about responsible families living within 40K in a low col area? I live in a fairly high col area and there are families in my town who live on less than that.

Big time. He financially ruined himself and had to declare bankruptcy, which is really sad given that he makes three times as much as us, has no kids, and lives in the same city.

Do you think the rates will sky-rocket? Or people won't be able to get a CC? Or what?

My guess is that credit lines will be drastically reduced or frozen at current level, and much harder to get. Raising interest rates doesn't really make sense for anyone, but the financial service industry is pretty clueless, so I wouldn't put it past them to try.

I think we need to re-post that "Snap" flowchart.
