OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

I remember you mentioning putting a certain amount of bills on a CC monthly at one point and having accumulated CC debt as a result. But, other than that I have never come across anyone doing that. I do know people who use an American Express card to pay groceries, utilities etc, but they pay the CC bill in full every month, so that is a little different and not what you are talking about I think.

That is terrible! If you do not make enough money to live day to day, then you either need to make more money or cut expenses. But, even if you needed to live on loans for a while, CCs would be the worst possible way to do it. That is just stupid.

Why is it wrong to use a credit card to pay for gas, groceries or any other expenses? I use my credit card for nearly everything. I carry very little cash. It works great as a cash flow mechanism. We get an automatic accounting that downloads right into Quicken with little additional input.

LOL, she means using the CC and then not paying the full bill at the end of the month, thus accumulating expensive debt, month after month after month. People like that count the credit card bill as whatever the minimum is to keep the card working. They think they are being responsible if they pay a little more than the absolute minimum every month. I have known people who do that for things like Christmas presents, but not for regular everyday spending (stupid either way, but still some sort of difference).

Hi! I have been reading this thread with interest. I want to remind everyone that, while this is a debate board and I don’t expect everyone to agree, please debate the issue, not the person. This thread has gotten a bit off the original topic, and it would be nice if we could all agree to disagree on the hypothetical budget issue. I think the point has been made on both sides.

Sure, because she pays the highest state income taxes in the US. And your DH pays zero in state income taxes.
