OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.

Yes, if a person can't pay off the monthly balance in full, it's really stupid to make a habit of using the CC.

I've never understood the "I use my CC to earn points" thing, though. I get perks by using my debit card, too, but without the temptation to overspend.

Why not? We are going on a cruise in 2 years and the more points I get, the more credit I will get on board or on excursions on the islands. Either I use my debit card for my food shopping or the card and if I will get at least $150 credit on the cruise, why not do it this way?

My debit card has no perks.

I'm saying that I don't understand the point system. I am not at all familiar with the point system. I've heard of it, and heck, my CC company has informed me of how many points I have, but I don't know what that means. How do "points" work exactly?

ETA: Double-checked and it's miles I have, not points. Not that I understand that, either.

I totally recommend doing this as long as you get something out of it from the cc company or miles or whatever. It doesn't make sense to me NOT to do it.

It all depends on your cc. I have one from a cruise line and there are different things you get with the points.

Generic credit cards, like a Chase or Capitol One Visa card or something.

Not every card has points on it. Only certain ones.
